Volleyball Dominates Greenville, Breaks 21 Game Streak

The Westminster volleyball team not only broke Greenville’s 21-game win streak over Westminster and gave Greenville their first conference loss on Thursday night, but they did so in just three sets. The Westminster Blue Jays are now tied with Greenville for first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) with a 12-1 record, and they are 13-8 on the season.

The scores were 25-23, 25-23, 25-21.

The Blue Jays came back in set one to tie the game at 23-23. They battled it out to pull the 25-23 win, giving them the 1-0 lead over Greenville.

Westminster held the lead throughout set two, but Greenville rallied to bring themselves back into the set. With game point on the line, sophomore Amanda Kiso put down a kill to take the 25-23 set two win.

With their perfect record on the line, Greenville battled to stay in the match in set three. A kill by sophomore Riley Lawrence put the game to set point, and Greenville sent a free ball out of bounds to give the Blue Jays the 25-21 set three win. With the 3-0 match win, the Blue Jay fans stormed the court.

Lawrence and Kiso finished the three sets with 13 kills each, and sophomore setter Kayla Reeg finished with 41 assists and 16 digs. Collier had four block assists, and Reeg, Kiso and sophomore Gabby LaRose each had three.

The Blue Jays take the weekend off before hosting Iowa Wesleyan College on Tuesday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m.
