FULTON, Mo. — April 20, 2026: Westminster College officially named Obi Agomo as its 15th head men’s basketball coach during a press conference at 3 p.m. in the Historic Gymnasium. A Chicagoland native, Agomo brings a wealth of coaching experience and a global basketball background to the Blue Jays program.
“We are excited to welcome Obi Agomo to Westminster College as our next head men’s basketball coach,” said Dr. Jessica Brown, director of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. “Obi is a proven leader who brings tremendous energy, a strong commitment to student-athlete development and a clear vision for building a competitive and values-driven program.”

Agomo arrives at Westminster after spending the last four seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he helped guide the program to a 61-44 overall record. During his tenure, he played a key role in developing eight all-conference performers, including three first-team selections and one national player-of-the-week honoree. Serving as the team’s defensive coordinator, Agomo helped lead DePauw to four consecutive seasons as a leader in defensive rebounding.
“On behalf of our entire program at DePauw University, I want to congratulate Obi Agomo on earning the head coaching position at Westminster College,” said Rusty Loyd, head men’s basketball coach at DePauw. “In his four years at DePauw, Obi has been an invaluable member of our staff — an outstanding teacher, a relentless recruiter and a mentor who genuinely invests in the growth of our student-athletes. both on and off the court.”
Loyd went on to say, “As he steps into this new role, I have no doubt he will excel in leading a program, building a strong culture, managing a staff and shaping the vision and identity of Westminster basketball. His ability to connect with people, develop talent and lead with integrity will serve him and his players extremely well. We are incredibly proud of Obi and grateful for the impact he and his wife had on our program and campus community. Westminster is getting a tremendous leader, and I’m excited to watch him build something special.”
Prior to DePauw, Agomo spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa. During his time there, he helped the program reach the conference tournament final in 2018 and coached 10 all-conference players. He also recruited and developed a three-time All-American.
Agomo began his coaching career at Lisle High School in Lisle, Illinois, where he spent two seasons leading the boys’ basketball program to a 34-14 record. He also worked with the Chicago Bulls Youth Academy as a private instructor and AAU coach, further demonstrating his commitment to player development at all levels.
Before transitioning into coaching, Agomo enjoyed a four-year international playing career that took him to 10 countries across five continents. He was selected 24th overall by the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada in 2012. In 2013, he represented the Nigerian National Team and earned all-star honors while playing in Kosovo.
Agomo earned his master’s degree in education-coaching from Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, in 2018. He previously graduated from Greenville in 2011 with a degree in sport management, where he was a standout student-athlete. A team captain during the 2010-2011 season, he averaged 12.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He earned all-defensive team honors in both 2010 and 2011, received all-conference recognition in 2011 and led the SLIAC in offensive rebounding with 2.5 per game.
“Congratulations to Westminster College and Dr. Jessica Brown on the outstanding decision to hire Obi Agomo as their new head men’s basketball coach,” said Dr. George Barber, head men’s basketball coach and professor of PHED at Greenville. “Obi brings a wealth of NCAA Division III experience, with impactful stops at Central College and DePauw University as an assistant at two highly respected programs.
“As Obi’s college coach, I know firsthand the dedication he brings to serving student-athletes, both in developing their basketball skills and shaping their character. He is a tireless worker, a strong leader and an excellent mentor. Obi and his wife will be a tremendous addition to Westminster and the Fulton community, and I look forward to watching the success he will build with the program.”

Agomo and his wife, Hannah, are proud parents to their three children: Malakai, Gianna, and Gabriella.
