Destination edification: Fulton and ANCM featured in ‘Family Destinations Guide’

Of course we already knew Fulton is fantastic, but it’s edifying to see others confirm what is ABSOLUTE TRUTH: The little town Westminster College calls home was recently hailed a supreme destination by the Family Destinations Guide!

The article focused on the town’s affordability while zeroing in on its brick-lined streets, boutique shops, historic buildings and friendly faces.

The guide made up of a team of travel experts based out of Casper, Wyoming, highlighted America’s National Churchill Museum (ANCM) on Westminster’s campus as “a place where history buffs can trace the footsteps of one famously eloquent British bulldog.”

We KNOW him.

And we’re so glad others are getting to know him, as well (shoutout to his little sidekick, Victor, who is also worth making your pal).

Westminster welcomes the Family Destinations Guide back to campus anytime! Meanwhile, let’s all take a moment to appreciate Alexandra Nelson’s June 29th article while perusing the travel site for more destination suggestions.

The Missouri House of Representatives formally recognized Churchill Fellow Hal Oakley ’90 and family for their generosity that led to a much-needed restoration of Winston Churchill.

The beloved bronze Franta Belsky statue has stood sentry at America’s National Churchill Museum for decades. Winston was restored to his original patina and returned this spring to his rightful place overlooking Westminster’s campus.

On June 27, Missouri Rep. and Churchill Fellow Louis Riggs ’83 presented the House resolution to Oakley during a quick trip to his office in Quincy, Illinois.

Way to go, Hal and family (and Louis)!

Winston Churchill’s ‘palliative painting’ featured in ‘Wall Street Journal’

The “palliative painting” Winston Churchill undertook later in life was mentioned in this Wall Street Journal opinion piece on July 2. We are fortunate to house a collection of his paintings at America’s National Churchill Museum.

ANCM featured on Travel Itch Radio podcast

On July 10, Award-winning baseball and travel journalist Dan Schlossberg featured ANCM’s Timothy Riley on his Travel Itch Radio podcast. Catch that episode here.

Missouri Rep. Bob Onder and Timothy Riley testify before U.S. Congress

Timothy Riley, the Sandra L. and Monroe E. Trout Director and Curator of America’s National Churchill Museum, testified before U.S. Congress on July 17 in support of H.R. 1945 “America’s National Churchill Museum National Landmark Act” introduced by Rep. Bob Onder (MO-3). The bill would designate ANCM a National Landmark.

Timothy Riley is pictured in a dark suit coat, white shirt and tie speaking before congress. He is seated with a white sign displaying his name and a microphone in front of him.

In their brief time spent before the National Resources Subcommittee, both Riley and Onder eloquently and succinctly stated why ANCM is worthy of this important designation. Onder posted his testimony on X, which you can find here, while Riley’s remarks are found on the House National Resources Committee YouTube page at the 30:46-second mark.
