Men’s Soccer Stays Unstoppable With 1-0 Shut Out Over Greenville

The Westminster men’s soccer team continues to be unstoppable after a 1-0 shut out over Greenville Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays are now 7-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play and are on a five game winning streak (last loss to non-conference Elmhurst on October 9, 2013).

In the 81st minute, senior Andrew Presnell headed the ball to senior Ty Cook, who in turn headed the ball into the goal to put the Blue Jays up 1-0. The goal later became the game winning goal after the Blue Jays held the Panthers from scoring in the last nine minutes of play.

“The boys did well again to pull off another victory,” said Head Coach Andrew Bordelon. “We struggled in some aspects of the game today, but we made up for it with hard work and working as a team.”

The Blue Jays took six shots on goal, including Cook’s goal. Freshman goalkeeper Raul Belman Romero (7-4) was credited with the win with two saves throughout the 90 minutes of play.

Saturday’s game served as the soccer season’s last home game, so the Blue Jays honored the ten seniors on the team: John Davis, Zach Moore, Tyler Walker, Jason Joshua, RJ Moore, Ty Cook, Michael McDonough, Joe Altepeter, Andrew Presnell and Sasha Mohammadi. Each senior has put in four years on the field for the Westminster soccer program.

“I think it is very fitting that Ty Cook scored from an Andrew Presnell assist on senior night. It was a great night for them and a testament to all their hard work,” commented Coach Bordelon on two of the seniors scoring the game’s lone goal.

The Blue Jays will face Webster University on Tuesday, October 29, at 5:00 p.m. in Webster Groves, Missouri. Webster is currently tied for second in the SLIAC, so the game will help decide who will finish in first place in the conference.
