Alumni Profile: Bob Glaze ’75

Bob Glaze ’75 credits his Westminster experience as the catalyst for his love for travel and appreciation for cultures all over the world. While at Westminster, Bob was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, editor of the Columns newspaper, and one of the first Student Ambassadors.

Bob’s happy memories of Westminster go even further back. As a young boy, Bob attended trustee meetings with his father, Andrew Glaze, who was a member of the College Board of Trustees.

Bob’s first international travel was after his freshman year at Westminster when he studied Christopher Wren’s architecture in England with trips to Scotland and France. After his junior year, he studied European Government and Politics and went to England, Brussels, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy.

As his career in commercial real estate blossomed, Bob began to travel again. Today, Bob has visited 800 cities in 43 countries.

“I always tried to document my trips and began studying photography. I love seeing beauty in everyday situations. My suggestion is not to walk down the street on the phone or texting. Take time to look, see, smell and listen – be fully present.”

Bob’s inspirational photographs are highly acclaimed.

In March 2006 his work, “The Faces of India, was part of a member’s group show at the University Club of Chicago. In 2010, his first solo show, sponsored by the Mexican Consul General in Chicago, was at the La Llorona Gallery in Lincoln Park in Chicago. He has also shown his photographs at the Generator Gallery in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Bob exhibited his photography and talked with students about his journeys and his art at the 2014 Hancock Symposium (photo below). Bob brought much to campus and found much to enjoy as well. “I would love to be attending Westminster now. It has grown in so many ways. It is a very exciting time to be on campus.”

Bob’s most recent endeavor has been to combine his photographic artwork with his passion for global travel by developing the professional travel website: globalphile.com (for the independent and sophisticated traveler).
