Winston and Other Blue Jays Flock to JCPenney Suit-Up Event

Winston is just one of many from the Westminster College community to flock to JCPenney in Columbia, MO, for savings on business attire. About 45 students, faculty, staff and alumni attended the Suit-Up Event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

JCPenney partnered with Westminster and three area colleges to offer discounts on professional clothing and accessories. The company also offered savings on professional photos, free mini makeovers and hair consultations. Cake, punch and giveaways also were offered by JCPenney to celebrate the event.

The Center for Career Development viewed the event as especially timely, as students are currently preparing for the 2019 Career and Majors Fair that will take place Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mueller Student Center.

Meg Langland, Director of the Center for Career Development, says the Suit-Up Event is an example of the many ways Westminster helps students prepare for professional life.

“These types of events demonstrate to our students how important it is to make a great first impression and that dressing appropriately still does matter,” Langland explains. “It was rewarding to see students being measured for suits and then selecting just the right outfit to represent themselves at the career fair or in a business setting.”

Asked about the Suit-Up Event, Sophomore Clayton Osceola of Blue Springs, MO, says, “I thought it was awesome! Without it I would not have been able to purchase so much professional clothing, and it was a great way to explore the different styles, all while receiving helpful critiques by friends and salespeople.”

Did Winston snag a suit and a snazzy tie while at the event? To find out, you’ll have to attend the next Blue Jays home football game this Saturday at noon. But other Blue Jays confirm that Winston was overheard asking another mascot, “What size do you think my waist is? I don’t usually wear pants.”
