Volleyball Sweeps Spalding in 3

The Westminster volleyball team swept Spalding University in 3 sets Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays are now 4-3 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play and 7-5 overall.

“After the Principia loss (having the 2-0 lead and then falling in five), it was good to get back in and be focused. It was good to dish out a match in three games and take control of a good match,” said Coach Curtis Madson.

The Blue Jays pulled out the close 25-22 win in set one. In sets two and three the Blue Jays trailed early, but were able to push through. The Blue Jays finished with a 25-19 set two and 25-20 set three win. “It was a great step forward for the team. The Blue Jays played well across the board,” commented Coach Madson.

Freshmen Riley Lawrence and Amanda Kiso led the Blue Jays with 10 and 9 kills, respectively. Kiso finished the match with a .600 attack and kill percentage and had three block assists. Sophomore Lexi Collier had two blocks and three block assists. Freshman Kayla Reeg had 31 assists and two blocks. Sophomore Caroline Will finished the match with 16 digs.

The Blue Jays travel to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on Wednesday, October 2, to play Iowa Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
