Volleyball Dominates at Greenville Quad, Leaves 2-0

The Westminster volleyball team faced and defeated their first two conference games of the season at the Greenville Quad Saturday afternoon. The two wins adds on to the Blue Jays’ four game winning streak, and brings them to a perfect 2-0 in conference play.

The Westminster Blue Jays matched up with MacMurray College first, and defeated them in four: 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21.

Sophomore Riley Lawrence led the team with 15 kills, followed by freshman Hannah Marshall with 11. Sophomore Amanda Kiso finished the match with two solo blocks and four block assists. Sophomore Gabby LaRose led the team in digs with 12, and sophomore setter Kayla Reeg had 41 assists. Lawrence and Reeg also had three service aces each.

After defeating MacMurray, the Blue Jays turned around and played Principia College next. After a back-and-forth battle, the Blue Jays came out with a 3-2 win (25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 15-25, 15-13). 

The Blue Jays had 57 kills as a team, with 19 coming from Lawrence. Junior Lexi Collier hit .476 with 12 kills, and Kiso hit .435 with 11 kills. Junior libero Carol Will led the team with 20 digs, and Reeg had 45 assists. Kiso finished the match with three block solos and two block assists, while LaRose and Collier each had one block solo and three block assists.

The Blue Jays see the court again on Saturday, September 20, at Fontbonne’s Quad. Iowa Wesleyan is first at 11:00 a.m., followed by Fontbonne at 1:00 p.m.
