Volleyball Wraps Up Elmhurst Invitational

The Westminster women’s volleyball team opened their 2014 season at the Elmhurst Invitational on Friday-Saturday, August 29-30. The Westminster Blue Jays went 0-2 on Friday, falling 3-0 to Coe College and Edgewood College. They then went 0-2 on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Dominican University and Luther College.

“When we put our schedule together, we wanted to challenge ourselves early to see where we stood. We gained a lot of experience and now know what we need to go back and work on,” said Head Coach Curtis Madson.

Junior Lexi Collier hit .375 on the weekend, finishing with 28 kills on 56 attempts. Sophomore Amanda Kiso hit .314, putting down 25 kills on 51 attempts. Sophomore Riley Lawrence had 34 kills on the weekend.

Sophomore setter Kayla Reeg had 112 assists and 26 digs with three service aces.

The Blue Jays had 19 total blocks on the weekend.

“There were some great individual performances, and I’m most happy with the steps we took to becoming a better team coming out of this weekend,” said Coach Madson. “I’m proud of the girls and look to build on it next weekend.”

The Blue Jays head to Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday-Saturday, September 5-6, for the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by Mount Saint Joseph. They will play three matches against Heidelberg, Thomas More and Mount Saint Joseph.
