Westminster Registrar Phyllis Masek to Receive 2017 Remley Award

For her dedication as a champion for the women of Westminster, Phyllis Masek, Registrar of the College, has been selected to receive the 2017 Remley Women’s Award. She will receive the award during Alumni Weekend 2017, April 27-30.

“There’s not a student at Westminster that Phyllis doesn’t love, and her door is always open to each one of them,” says Dr. Carolyn Perry, Vice President and Dean of Faculty and 2013 Remley Award honoree. “But she has been particularly helpful to those young women over the years who needed a bit of encouragement or confidence-building.”

The award celebrates women who emulate the spirit of Dr. Audrey Remley, the first full-time woman professor at Westminster College. Honorees champion and care for the women of Westminster, as Dr. Remley did, welcoming the first class of Westminster women in 1979.

Masek is married to Don Masek ’77 and mother of three – Eliot, Brant ’13, and Kelsey ’13.  She is also the very proud grandmother of William Masek.

June 1, 2017 marks Masek’s 40th anniversary of working at Westminster College.

“Phyllis may be known for degree-audits,” Dr. Perry says, “but when students are in her office, she is doing so much more.  She gives great advice on how to graduate on time, encourages students to pursue their dreams, and offers a shoulder to cry on when life is overwhelming.  And when a struggling student finally finds her way, no one is happier or more proud than Phyllis. She has been a benevolent force behind all things good about Westminster for 40 years, and I’m not sure how the College could manage without her.”
