Blue Jays Open SLIAC Play With 77-52 Win Over Iowa Wesleyan

The Westminster men’s basketball team opens up their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play with a 77-52 win over the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers. The Westminster Blue Jays improve their overall record to 2-3 and start their conference record 1-0.

The Blue Jays opened the game with a 14-0 run throughout the first nine minutes. The Tigers cut the deficit to eight points, but the Blue Jays propelled again and closed out the first half with the 39-16 lead.

The Blue Jays continued to prosper in the second half, but the Tigers managed to cut their deficit to just 15 points after a three pointer and a layup. The Blue Jays answered back with an 11-0 run to take a 27 point lead, 66-39, with 8:49 left in the game.

The Blue Jays closed out the game with a 77-52 win.

Junior Brandon Moore and sophomore Jay Zalis led the game with 17 points apiece. Zalis went 4-6 from the three-point line and 3-3 from the foul line. Junior Verdis Lee Jr. added 14 points to the mix. Senior Joe James finished the game with 5 rebounds and senior Jordan Jones dished five assists.
