Women’s Soccer Outshot In 1-3 Homecoming Loss

The Westminster women’s soccer team was outshot 18-11 in the 1-3 Homecoming loss to Spalding University Saturday night. The Blue Jays dropped to 2-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and to 4-10-1 overall.

Spalding scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute. The Blue Jays took three shots, two on goal, in the first half but were unable to get past the Spalding goalkeeper.

The Blue Jays finally found the net when sophomore Eileen Koppy scored a goal off a pass from sophomore Tayisah Pohtos (Ousley). The goal was short-lived as Spalding scored off a breakaway just 30 seconds later. Spalding scored a security goal in the 79th minute.

Pohtos had great looks at the goal throughout the game, but was unable to find the back of the net.  She finished the game with three shots on goal and a total of six shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey faced 12 shots on goal, saving 9 and allowing the 3 goals.

The Blue Jays head to Mount Pleasant, Iowa on Wednesday, October 23, to face Iowa Wesleyan. The game starts at 3:00 p.m.
