Men’s Soccer Faces Carleton In First Round of NCAA DIII Tournament

The NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Committee on Monday announced the field of 61 teams for the 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship, which begins Thursday and concludes with the national championship Dec. 7.

The Westminster men’s soccer team will face Carleton College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The game will be held in Saint Peter, Minnesota at the Gustavus Soccer at Track Complex on Saturday, November 16 at 1:30 p.m.

The Westminster Blue Jays head to the Tournament with a 11-8-1 record after breaking program history by winning their first ever St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament Title and tying for first place in the SLIAC. This will be the Blue Jays second appearance in the NCAA Tournament; they last appeared for the first time in 2002.

The Carleton Knights head to the Tournament with a 12-2-3 overall record. The Knights claimed their second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Tournament Title and their conference’s automatic bid after taking tying for second in their regular season.

Saturday’s other game at Gustavus will be the College of St. Scholastica (17-2-3), making their second consecutive NCAA Tournment appearance, and the host, Gustavus (13-3-1). Gustavus is making their 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament. They secured one of the 19 at-large bids to the Tournament after being upset during the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs.

Saturday’s victors will meet in a second-round match on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Sectionals the following weekend.

St. Scholastica vs. Gustavus Adolphus

Sunday, Nov. 17 (Game time 1:30 p.m. EST)
1:30 p.m. – Westminster/Carleton winner vs. St. Scholastica/Gustavus Adolphus winner

Tickets are required for all fans and will be available for purchase at the gate on game day. Admission prices established by the NCAA are:

$6 – General Admission
$3 – Seniors and Students
$2 – Children ages 3 to 12
Free – Children 2 and under
