Missouri Reverse Transfer Benefits Transfer Students

Helping students improve their collegiate resumes, Westminster College is a participating school in the Missouri Reverse Transfer (MRT) program. MRT is a quick and easy way for students to get help completing the degrees they have started more efficiently. While many public schools in Missouri have signed on to the program, Westminster is one of few private institutions to do so and offer this benefit to transfer students.

Kathy Neal, coordinator of transfer credit services at Westminster, explains that MRT allows participating schools to “give credit where credit is due.” Kathy says this will help students by giving them a leg up in the completion of their bachelor’s degrees.

“Allowing the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree in the process of earning a higher degree becomes a safety net of sorts,” says Neal. “Job prospects are better in the interim, and often earning the two-year degree is just the incentive and motivation they need to go ahead and complete that next step – a bachelor’s degree.”

Who is eligible?

Students who have completed at least 15 credit hours at a two-year college and transferred to a four-year college in Missouri without completing an associate’s degree.

How do you benefit?

MRT allows the four-year institutions to reverse transfer credits that apply to the associate’s degree. Those transferred credits can enable students to complete their associate’s degrees from the two-year institutions where they began their college education.
