Andrea Long to Receive Young Alumni Achievement Award

Andrea Long from Nixa, MO, Class of 2006, will receive a Westminster College Young Alumni Achievement Award on Saturday, April 29, during the college’s Alumni Weekend.

Long is the In-House Counsel and Corporate Compliance Officer for North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison, AR.

“Westminster alumni are an amazing group of people, and I am honored and humbled to be recognized by them,” says Long. “The Westminster experience extends far beyond graduation, and the friends and colleagues I have met along the way continue to shape the way I view the world.”

The Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented annually to alumni who demonstrate the Westminster mission through outstanding achievement early in their chosen career and/or dedicated leadership and service to their community and who graduated five to fifteen years before being nominated.

Previously, Long was Managing Attorney for the CoxHealth-LSSM Medical-Legal Partnership at Legal Services of Southern Missouri in Springfield. In this position she was instrumental in starting and implementing a program with a large local hospital that seeks to treat low-income patients, who, in the face of complicated social and legal barriers typically enter hospitals in poorer health.  This program is considered to be on the cutting edge of increasing the quality of health care outcomes for patients and strengthening a community’s overall health.

She is a member of the City Council of Nixa, MO, where she repeatedly led an effort for the city to offer an alternative sentencing court, with the purpose of offering repeat offenders a chance to address underlying issues such as drug addiction, homelessness or mental illness.

She also is President of the Christian County Bar Association.

Long has been honored by Missouri Lawyers Weekly with a Women’s Justice Award and named as one of the “40 Under 40” for the Springfield Business Journal and the “20 Under 30” for 417 Magazine.

She holds a law degree from the University of Tulsa and a Master of Health Administration from Missouri State University.

Long will receive her award at a special Alumni Honors Convocation Ceremony, to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury on the Westminster campus in Fulton, MO. The award is approved by the Alumni Council and requires a motion and vote from the Board of Trustees for approval.  Only two alumni can receive the award annually.
