Westminster Hands and Hearts Reach Out for #Harveyrelief
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, at least a half million people’s lives have been uprooted in some way by the devastation. Now the people of Florida are evacuating en masse in anticipation of an even larger natural disaster. At this time when all of America is coming together with help and prayers, we ask all of the Westminster to come together with your hearts and your hands to offer support and assistance to the victims.
If any of you have family or friends affected by these tragic circumstances, our thoughts are with them. We pray that suffering ends and lives return to normal as quickly as possible. In keeping with our mission of service to others, the entire Westminster community is reaching out to do its part for all of those in need.
All relief organizations say the best contribution that Americans can make is financial.
While many have offered items such as clothing, food, and bottled water, those in the affected areas have asked that items like these not be sent. With all the flooding, no places are available to store what comes in and valuable volunteers who could be helping people would have to devote their time to sorting and distributing the items and discarding items that could not be used.
The Center for Faith and Service on campus have organized a campus relief effort to raise money for the American Red Cross. Representatives will be collecting donations from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on September 12-14 in JCI. Donations may also be taken to the Center for Faith and Service any time before Friday, September 15.
Anyone who wishes to donate directly can call 1-800-REDCROSS, visit www.redcross.org, or text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
But let’s do our part as the Blue Jay Nation!
