Football’s Intercepted Pass Ends Senior Day With A 27-30 Loss
The Westminster football team could not pull a senior day win on Saturday as they fell 27-30 to Martin Luther College.
The Martin Luther Knights started the game with a 53-yard touchdown pass. Their PAT was no good, giving them the 6-0 lead. The Blue Jays answered back just seconds later with their own 74-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Joe Plassmeyer to senior Sam Lantz Jr. Westminster’s kicker Jeff Dickerson’s PAT was good, allowing the Blue Jays the 7-6 lead.
The Blue Jays opened up the second quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Plassmeyer to sophomore Austin Kempker, PAT good. Junior Chase Roberts forced a fumble and recovered the fumble on the Knight’s 26-yard line, giving the Blue Jays the opportunity to increase their lead. The Knight’s intercepted Westminster’s pass and returned in 75 yards for a touchdown. The Knight’s went for the 2-point conversion to tie the game, but the pass attempt was incomplete; the Blue Jays still held the lead, 14-12.
The Knights had a strong 3rd quarter, scoring an unanswered 11 points and taking the 23-14 lead.
A 76-yard pass from Plassmeyer to freshman Mike Washington got the Blue Jays to the 1-yard line to start the fourth quarter. Lantz Jr. rushed the ball in for the touchdown. The PAT was no good and the Blue Jays trailed 20-23. A rushed pass by the Knights with 2:27 remaining in the game resulted in a touchdown, PAT good.
The back-and-forth game led into an exhilarating end. A 61-yard pass had Washington dragging three defenders into the endzone and senior Justin Billiot finished the drive with a touchdown. The PAT by Dickerson was good, bringing the score to 30-27. An onside kick and a fumble recovered by senior Josh Bromberg had the Blue Jays within scoring distance. A 43-yard pass by Billiot was intercepted by the Knights with just 18 seconds on the clock. The Knights finished the game with two team rushes, ending the Blue Jays chance to win.
The Blue Jays finished the game with 333 passing yards with 258 coming from Plassmeyer. Lantz Jr. led the Blue Jays’ offense with 216 all-purpose yards. Washington led the game with 170 receiving yards.
Dickerson averaged 45.2 yards on his 5 kickoffs and 36.1 yards on his 7 punts. Five of his punts landed in the 20.
Bromberg led the Blue Jays’ defense with 9 solo tackles and 8 assisted tackles. He completed 3.5 tackles for a loss of 9 yards, a sack and a forced fumble.
The Blue Jays finalize their season with a 2-8 overall record and a 2-7 record in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
I would like to see if I can get some of the pictures that were taken of the seniors yesterday at the last game. Are you going to post some additional pictures?

This may hurt but the football team needs a new head coach. The talent was there on the team. I when to every home game and you could see on the players face and one time heard that the players was not happy with the head coach.
You want post by comment because it is the truth.
