Football Outscores MacMurray 21-14, Moves To 2-0 In UMAC
Senior Josh Bromberg put the first numbers on the board after his pick six for 25 yards with 8:13 remaining in the first half. The PAT by freshman Jeff Dickerson was good, giving the Blue Jays the 7-0 lead.
The Blue Jays came into the second half and a three yard pass from junior quarterback Joe Plassmeyer to junior Kyle Watts scored the second touchdown of the game.
MacMurray started the fourth quarter with a 26-yard pass for a touchdown, but sophomore Deron Wilbourn blocked the point after attempt. The Blue Jays were unable to make it past the 50-yard line during their next two drives. MacMurray made it to first and goal on the Westminster 3-yard line, but the Blue Jays’ defense stepped up and did not let the Highlanders in. With 4:05 left in the game and the Highlanders 4th and goal, they decided to go for the touchdown. The Highlanders rushed the ball in for the touchdown and completed the pass for the two-point conversion to tie the game up at 14-14.
Blue Jay senior Jeremy Hampton returned the ball 20 yards to start their drive on their own 37-yard line. Plassmeyer threw 26 yards before completing a 21 yard pass to senior Sam Lantz Jr. for a touchdown with 2:26 on the clock. The PAT by Dickerson was good, giving the Blue Jays the 21-14 lead.
Westminster’s defense did not allow MacMurray to pass their own 49-yard line. The Blue Jays started their drive with :56 left in the game and ran out the clock to grab their second conference win.
Plassmeyer completed 21 passes for 164 yards that led to two touchdowns. Senior Ronnie Seals Jr. led the Blue Jays’ offense with 25 rushes for 154 yards. Dickerson went 3-for-3 on point after attempts and punted eight times for 287 yards.
Senior Louvis Johnson led the Blue Jays’ defense with nine total tackles, four being solo tackles. Johnson and sophomore CJ Vaughan each had a sack and Vaughan finished with an interception and three break ups.
