Educators Rising Competition Featuring Missouri Teacher of the Year to Take Place at Westminster College
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fulton, Mo. – March 4, 2024: For the second year in a row, Westminster College will welcome high school students from across the state as the official host of the 2024 Educators Rising Missouri State Competition, which begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Champ Auditorium.
Young people at participating high schools who are interested in pursuing careers in education will convene in a variety of team-based and individual competitions.
Competition categories include children’s book-writing, public speaking, ethical dilemmas and more.
The event will begin with a keynote presentation by Greg Kester, Missouri’s Teacher of the Year. Kester teaches social studies at Potosi High School.
Both the opening event and the awards ceremony at 4 p.m. in Champ Auditorium will be open to the public.
Educators Rising is sponsored by the Missouri National Education Association and is part of PDK International, which has an active group of education majors at Westminster.
Dr. Barri Bumgarner, chair of Westminster’s Education department, says the College’s education majors are excited to help with the competition throughout the day.
“To host this competition and welcome these amazing young people to our campus is such an honor,” Bumgartner says. “It is a magical day with no classes for our education students, but so much education going on all around us.”
