Over 1,000 Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Friends Attend Cardinals Game

A group of over one thousand Westminster College baseball fans, including Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni and students went to Busch Stadium on May 22 to cheer the St. Louis Cardinals on to a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

One of the major highlights of the evening for Westminster fans was watching Westminster Head Baseball Coach Denny Hughes throw out the first honorary pitch of the evening.  Coach Hughes was joined on the field by his son Dane, Westminster Assistant Baseball Coach; son Danton, a recent graduate who was on the Westminster Blue Jay baseball team; and son Deion, a sophomore Blue Jay baseball player who holds the third place in the NCAA Division III national rankings for strikeouts per nine innings.  The group was accompanied by Coach Hughes wife Carole and Westminster Athletic Director Matt Mitchell.  See photos of Coach Hughes’ first pitch.

Four Westminster senior baseball players were allowed on the field for the Cardinals batting practice. Tim Chambliss from St. Louis, MO; Cam Backes from Tipton, MO; Jake Rule from St. Louis, MO and Tommy Bohnert from St. Louis MO.

A late afternoon reception for the group was held before the game at the Outfield at Mike Shannon’s, and they enjoyed an after-game celebration in the VIP area of the Fox Sports Midwest section of Ballpark Village.
