Student Power Wall Highlights Stories of Transformation Taking Place on Campus

Westminster is a small college with a mighty reputation for educating leaders of tomorrow. And rather than focusing on research or other endeavors that concentrate on subjects rather people, our mission is our students. Nowhere is that mission more evident than in our student experiences that now can be found on our new Student Power Wall.

Take a moment to view the amazing stories of transformation — stories that show how our students evolve from shy freshmen with undeclared majors to leaders on campus with ambitious ideas about the future.

These are honest stories about students written by students themselves. Take Ashim Kharki, ’20 ΣΑΕ, for instance. A senior from Kathmandu, Nepal, Kharki mentions how Westminster taught him to take care of himself and make decisions without the help of his family. Today Kharki is thriving as an international business and business administration double major because of the attention he receives in his classes.

“Through group work and presentations, I have learned leadership skills within the classroom,” Kharki says. “More specifically, they taught me to work as a member of a group as well as a leader and how to do this without conflicts in the group.”

Lana Poole, Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Communications, says students like Kharki are Westminster’s greatest marketing asset. “Our students have so much energy. Their stories of transformation while on our campus illustrate who we are as a small liberal arts college,” Poole says. “Their personal stories help us get the message out about how special this institution is.”

To harness the abundant student energy and the power of student testimonies, Poole helped the students launch a student-run marketing agency — which they officially named the West Wings Marketing Agency — this fall. Read more about the West Wings here.

In addition to a strong social media presence on campus, West Wingers are actively involved in interviewing and writing student stories for the new Student Power Wall. The Wall is based off our Alumni Power Wall, which features our many alumni stories of success. Read about our Alumni Power Wall here.

Together, both Wall portions of our Westminster website are a powerful marketing tool for the College.

Watch the Student Power Wall evolve in months to come as our West Wingers gather more student stories of transformation. And as always, look for alumni you know on our Alumni Power Wall. Learn how Westminster planted the seeds for growth and launched countless careers in a surprising variety of fields.
