Women’s Soccer Ends In Tie With Fontbonne, 1-1

The Westminster women’s soccer team ended double overtime with a 1-1 tie with Fontbonne on Tuesday evening. The Blue Jays are now 4-2-2 in conference play heading into their final regular season game. They are 7-6-2 on  the season.

The Westminster Blue Jays scored early in the game with a goal by  junior Ashley Schimmel off an assist from junior Tayisah Pohtos.

Both Westminster and Fontbonne were unable to get another shot off until 30 seconds remaining in the half. Fontbonne took a shot on goal, but Westminster’s keeper, Ellen Woolsey, was there for the save. The Blue Jays led at halftime, 1-0.

Fontbonne took two shots on goal to start the second half, and the second shot made it past Westminster’s keeper to tie the game at 1-1.

Westminster took four shots throughout the rest of the game, but only two found the net. Fontbonne’s keeper was there to stop the ball, ending regulation with a 1-1 tie.

Fontbonne had one shot in the first overtime, but the ball went high.

In the second overtime, the Blue Jays were unable to get a shot off. Fontbonne had one shot on goal, but Woolsey had the save to keep the game tied. The second overtime ran out, ending the game with a 1-1 tie.

Woolsey finished the 110 minutes with three saves.

The Blue Jays close out conference play on Saturday, November 1, at MacMurray College. The game starts at 1:00 p.m.
