Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Iowa Wesleyan 4-0

The Westminster women’s soccer team shut out Iowa Wesleyan 4-0 Wednesday afternoon. The win improves the Blue Jays’ St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to 3-3 and their overall record to 5-10-1.

Sophomore Tayisah Pohtos (Ousley) scored the first goal of the game, later becoming the winning goal, just 1:32 into the game. Pohtos also scored the following goal on a breakaway in the 12th minute. Sophomore Eileen Koppy followed Pohtos with a goal, scoring her 7th goal of the season. The Blue Jays took 13 shots on goal in the first half, but were unable to find the net again in the first.

Sophomore Erin DeVasto scored a goal in the 79th minute, marking down her first collegiate career goal.

The Blue Jays took 32 shots during the game with 24 being on goal.  Freshman goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey marked her fourth shutout as a Blue Jay with the 4-0 shutout.

The Blue Jays will host Greenville College Saturday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m. Four seniors will be honored before the game as the Blue Jays celebrate Senior Day.
