Campus Announcements

Student Involvement Fair Mark your calendars for Thursday, Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for the Student Involvement Fair. This year the fair will be held in Mueller Student Center. This is the opportunity for students to find the club or organization that is right for them. Time to ask questions and visit with campus organizations leadership, learn about our campus clubs as well as how to join. If your club, organization or office would like to be a part of the Student Involvement Fair, click here or scan the QR code to complete the sign-up form by Monday, Aug. 29 and we will provide a table and two chairs for you. Feel free to bring info to pass out, swag or any type of display you would like. Set up will begin after 10 a.m. on the Sept. 1.  Fundraiser for Cyd Funk ‘22 Some of you may know that our wonderful and talented (May '22) graduate and recent WC employee Cyd Funk was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Cyd was on the verge of starting a graduate program in Philosophy at Mizzou, but instead she has begun an intense round of treatment to battle this cancer. Because she will have to defer her program, she has also found herself without the insurance and stipend that would have accompanied her graduate education. If you know Cyd, you know that in addition to possessing a deep love of learning and curiosity about the world, she is a unique, generous, kind, and empathetic soul. She faces a long road of treatment ahead, and we hope to provide her and her family- including our own Alana Funk Shockley- with as much community support as possible. Many of you have already shown support in numerous ways, and we want to express our deepest gratitude. If you are able and so inclined, here are 3 ways you can help Cyd and her family:
  1. We have set up a GoFundMe for Cyd to help offset her medical expenses. All proceeds go directly to her. https://gofund.me/937e7d7f
  2. We have also set up a Meal Train sign-up if you want to provide a meal to Cyd and her family. This is a great way to help relieve some everyday stress. https://mealtrain.com/n1vmne
  3. Share Cyd's GoFundMe with anyone you think might be able to help. Her medical expenses will greatly surpass our initial goal, so the more people who see the campaign, the better.
If you have any questions or other ideas for help, feel free to reach out to us. We really appreciate your care and support! Thanks, Kali and Heidi
Meal Train for Cyd Funk and Family Our truly special Cyd does not shy away from challenges. But now she faces one of the biggest challenges as she begins her journey to battle leukemia. Much has been put on hold during this time so that Cyd can focus on her health, and we want to help her family devote their energy to supporting Cyd during this time. Food is love, and helping the Funk family by providing a meal is a wonderful way to show your support. Community is essential during this time, and we are grateful for Cyd's wonderful community of supporters. You can also donate funds at https://gofund.me/f16e0d65. If you have any questions, please message Kali Wright-Smith. Thank you for your love and care! mealtrain.com

New Westminster Travel Course: London to Paris: The Tide of Allied Victory in World War II In Summer 2023, Westminster students, alumni, and friends of the college are invited to join us on a study abroad experience where we follow in the footsteps of Allied forces as they fought Nazi tyranny in Western Europe. This eleven-day trip will include unique opportunities and behind-the-scenes tours that no other college can provide due to Westminster's connections with Sir Winston Churchill and the city of London. Some highlights of the trip include: visiting the Imperial War Museum and the Cabinet War Rooms in London; a visit to the beaches of Normandy and the American Cemetery; seeing La Pointe du Hoc--the daunting cliff scaled by Allied troops to suppress German gunfire on D-Day; a visit to the Shoah Holocaust Memorial and Museum in Paris, and many more. There will also be time for you to explore other famous sites and take in the rich histories of London and Paris, including taking a Thames River cruise, seeing Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe, and, of course, the Eiffel Tower. Do not just read about Churchill and the Allied triumph over Hitler's brutal authoritarianism - see where decisions were made, lives were lost, and where democracy was saved. The course will run from May 29 through June 8, preceded by a mid-semester class which will provide the historical context for the places we will visit. *This is one of those rare opportunities that few other colleges can provide. As you are making your plans for the coming school year and beyond, please consider joining us on what promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Watch for more details and information meetings in September.
