Westminster’s Alpha Chi National Honor Society Prestigiously Ranked as a Top 23 and Notable Chapter

The Alpha Chi National Honor Society headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, recently notified Westminster College that its distinguished Missouri Delta chapter is both a Top 23 and Notable Chapter.

The College’s esteemed honor society is one of only three chapters in Alpha Chi’s Region IV to earn Top 23 status. Likewise, Westminster is one of only 15 colleges and universities to be named a Notable Chapter.

The two designations are based on performance during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Dr. David Jones, Westminster’s Alpha Chi advisor, says the significant distinctions recognize the high level of activity in which Missouri Delta members participated last year.

“The chapter is particularly proud of five students presenting a total of four presentations at Alpha Chi’s National Convention in Birmingham, Alabama, including in the Trisha Yarbrough Collaborative Research Competition.” Jones emphasizes.

Alpha Chi members also helped others during finals and submitted scholarly work for fellowships and scholarships. The high achievers additionally took the time to recognize honors students, faculty advisors, and new Alpha Chi members at the chapter’s annual Honors Dinner.

Jones says these activities are typical of the Missouri Delta chapter, which has been similarly designated in the past as a Star Chapter ― the only other honorific granted to institutions with Alpha Chi chapters, which are found at approximately 300 colleges and universities throughout the United States.

To be chosen for Alpha Chi membership at Westminster, students must be academically in the top 5% of the junior class or 10% of the senior class. They also must be in “good character” standing.

The Missouri Delta chapter currently consists of 11 students, two alumni, and two honorary members on campus.

Jones has served as the Alpha Chi faculty advisor for 27 years, was national president from 2015 to 2023, and is a past governing board member. He says this year’s designations make him particularly proud because they took place when a Westminster alumnus was nationally venerated as one of Alpha Chi’s finest.

He reflects, “Missouri Delta chapter members where glad to be able to support Dr. Zac Imel ’01 in his achievement as Distinguished Alumnus for 2024, and we also are particularly proud to be recognized as one of the top performing chapters in the region and the world.”
