Westminster to Host Callaway Goes Blue for CASA Kick-Off Event at the Columns

Westminster College will partner with Heart of Missouri CASA for its annual Callaway Goes Blue for CASA campaign that runs throughout April for Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The public is invited to a kick-off ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on April 1 on the Hill at Westminster College, when the lights that shine on the iconic Columns will be switched to blue in support of the local campaign.
An abbreviation for Court Appointed Special Advocates, “CASA” is a national organization of volunteers who represent abused or neglected children in the court system. Locally, of the approximately 179 children in foster care, 75 are currently in need of a CASA advocate.
During the kick-off ceremony, remarks will be given by CASA and Westminster representatives as well as members of the Epsilon Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, whose national philanthropy has been CASA since 1989.
Community Engagement Manager Casey Twidwell of Heart of Missouri CASA says one of the aims of the Callaway Goes Blue for CASA campaign is to find new volunteers.
“CASA volunteers are dedicated and compassionate individuals who consistently show up to ensure children feel seen, heard and valued. They serve as a vital source of stability during one of the most challenging times in a child’s life, helping to create a path toward a brighter future,” she explains. “During Callaway Goes Blue for CASA, we aim to recruit new volunteers, raise awareness and secure financial support to advocate for every child who has experienced abuse or neglect.”
