Westminster Students and Alumni Deem Career Fair a Success

On September 26, approximately 100 Westminster Students gathered at the Career Fair to explore post-graduate opportunities. Employers, graduate schools, and study abroad representatives were present; and shared helpful information with students, who say they now feel more prepared as the future nears.
Westminster graduate Katie Koonce ’16 says it was the Career Fair that helped her secure a position with Aldi. Koonce wanted to return to campus for this year’s fair so she could offer these same opportunities to other students. “As an alumna, I came to the institution that afforded me the opportunity to work for such a great business.” She continues, “Westminster College truly prepares graduating seniors to succeed in positions like mine.”
Junior Lydia Creech ’19 agrees that the Career Fair prepared her for the future. “I practiced skills that will help me succeed in the real world. Initially, I didn’t know what my post-graduation plan was, but the fair helped me explore some options.” Creech also says the recruiters who participated were interactive. “The representatives were available and helpful. Brie Miller, from Saint Louis University’s graduate school, shared a lot of information about their business program.”
Of the Westminster students who filled out a Career Fair evaluation, 78% said they are now considering a new career they hadn’t previously thought about; while 95% commented that the representatives provided valuable information.
Several recruiters made positive remarks about Westminster’s student involvement. Stephens College representative, Heather Miles, said, “More students who were interested in graduate school participated this year.” Teron Sutherlin, Webster University graduate program representative, also commented that students were highly engaged. “Most of the questions I received were related to the application process. They [students] also asked about specific things related to their majors.”
