Westminster Recognizes 14 Outstanding Alumni During Alumni Weekend 2022
Westminster College recognized 14 highly accomplished alumni during its Alumni Awards Convocation at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, in Champ Auditorium.
This year’s ceremony was the first in-person alumni convocation since 2019 and fittingly included honorees from both 2021 and 2022, who are listed below:
- Frank Absher, ’69 ΚΑ, of St. Louis, MO, received the Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award. Absher is the founder and executive director of the St. Louis Media History Foundation.
- Shauna Aminath, ’08 IND, of Male, Maldives, received a Young Alumni Achievement Award. Aminath serves as minister for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology in the Republic of Maldives.
- Joseph M. Ashley, ’74 ΣΑΕ, of Richmond, VA, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Ashley serves as principal of Ashley Consulting, LLC.
- John T. Baumstark, Sr., ’67 ΣΑΕ, of St. Louis, MO, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Baumstark is retired as chair and founder of Archway Sales.
- Derick Dailey, ’11 IND, of New York, NY, received a Young Alumni Achievement Award. Dailey is a litigation associate with Davis+Gilbert LLP.
- Laurie Groner, ’89 IND, of St. Robert, MO, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Groner is chief of Behavioral Health FORSCOM at Fort Leonard Wood, U.S. Department of Defense.
- Brad Hilsabeck, ’86 ΔΤΔ, of Lafayette, CA, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Hilsabeck is the retired chief executive officer of Grantham, Mayo, & van Otterloo and a minority shareholder for the Dallas Wings.
- Melissa C. Hinton, ’90 ΚΚΓ, of Sioux Falls, SD, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Hinton is a partner with Evans, Haigh, & Hinton LLP.
- Joseph D. Holt, ’62 IND, of Fulton, MO, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Holt is a attorney with Riley, Stingley, Brazas, PC.
- Kevin S. Mathis, ’92 IND, of New York, NY, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Mathis is an attorney and lobbyist with Mathis Strategies.
- Mary Beth Miller, PhD, ’09 ΚΚΓ, of Columbia, MO, received a Young Alumni Achievement Award. Miller is an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry as well as the director and principal investigator for the Health Intervention Treatment Lab at the University of Missouri.
- Katie S. Murray, DO, ’05 ΚΑΘ, of Columbia, MO, received a Young Alumni Achievement Award. Murray is an assistant professor of surgical oncology and oncology at the University of Missouri.
- David G. Spielman, ’72 ΣΑΕ, of New Orleans, LA, received an Alumni Achievement Award. Spielman is a photographer and the owner of The Spielman Gallery.
- Talisha Washington, ’13 IND, of Fulton, MO, received the Remley Award. Washington serves as the head women’s basketball coach and women’s golf coach at Westminster College.
President and Chief Transformation Officer Donald P. Lofe, Jr., said those recognized exemplify the mission of Westminster College.
“Each one of the honorees are leaders of character who have lived lives of success, significance, and service, which Westminster’s mission statement emphasizes,” Lofe said. “The College was pleased to be able to be able to honor their significant achievements in person this year.”

The Westminster Alumni Awards Convocation has recognized outstanding alumni since 1956. Honorees were nominated by their peers and voted on by the College’s Alumni Council.
This year’s ceremony was among more than 45 alumni events to take place during Alumni Weekend 2022, April 8-10, drawing a record crowd of more than 500 individuals to Westminster’s campus.
