Westminster College Faculty and Students to Conduct STEAM Night for Fourth- and Fifth-Graders

WHO: Dr. Tami Ensor, Assistant Professor of Education; Dr. Jo Morrow, Assistant Professor of Biology, Dr. Matthew Howell, Assistant Professor of Biology; Westminster College students; and area fourth- and fifth-graders as well as their families

WHAT: Stations will be set up to teach about science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, or STEAM. The fourth- and fifth-graders will learn how to extract DNA from a banana, code with Sphero balls, build spaghetti towers and straw rockets, and examine dinosaur and other ancient fossils, to name just a few activities.*

WHEN: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023

WHERE: Coulter Science Center on the campus of Westminster College, 501 Westminster Ave.

WHY: The purpose of Westminster’s STEAM Night is to demonstrate to area fourth- and fifth-graders that immersing themselves in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics is worthwhile  even fun  and can open their eyes to exciting career possibilities. The College’s experiential, hands-on approach to education is unsurpassed and noted for teaching students to make connections across disciplines. STEAM Night is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate those educational benefits to area children while also allowing numerous Westminster students to practice their teaching skills.
