Westminster Blue Jay Sports Teams Receive $100,000 in New Fitness Equipment

Members of the Westminster Blue Jay football team started conditioning this week with big smiles on their faces as they were greeted with new fitness equipment for the athletic training facility, courtesy of a $100,000 grant to the College.

Four new universal free weight fitness units are now in place for the use of all Westminster’s sports teams in the Wetterau Center for Field Sports.

“This was the first major upgrade in strength and conditioning equipment for the campus since the mid 1990s,” says Josh Thompson, Director of Sports Medicine and Performance/Athletic Healthcare Administrator.  “Upgrading the Wetterau Center Weight Room with modern equipment will allow our student-athletes to better prepare for competition as well as help them develop healthy habits that will serve them later in life.”

The new state-of-the-art equipment has been made possible due to a generous grant from The Grover Hermann Foundation.

Named for its founder and benefactor, Grover Hermann (1890-1979), who built his small paint company into a major corporation, The Grover Herman Foundation provides grants to worthy causes in the fields of education, health, public policy, community, and religion with a priority given to higher education grants.

Grant money to purchase the equipment was received by the College in early March.
