Volleyball Overcomes 0-2 Deficit, Beats CMU 3-2

The Westminster volleyball team overcame a 0-2 deficit to down Central Methodist University 3-2 Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improve their overall record to 9-6.

The Blue Jays dropped sets one and two 16-25 and 22-25. Central Methodist took an early eight-point lead in set three, but the Blue Jays rallied back to win 25-22.

“Everybody on the court elevated their game and came through with the clutch play at different times,” said Head Coach Curtis Madson. “It was something special to be a part of.”

The Blue Jays took control of set four and defeated Central Methodist 25-13. Set five stayed neck-and-neck, but the Blue Jays pulled out the 15-13 win.

“I could not be more proud of our girls tonight. With a quarter of our roster out hurt or sick, they came together and won the match,” commented Coach Madson.

Sophomore Lexi Collier  had 13 kills out of the Blue Jays’ 51 kills and led with four service aces.  Freshman Amanda Kiso had 13 kills, two block solos and three block assists. Freshman Kayla Reeg finished the match with 49 assists and sophomore Caroline Will had 19 digs.

“It was great seeing them get back to the reason they play volleyball; the girls played pressure free and had fun,” said Coach Madson, referring to their tough time finishing in five sets this season. “We needed to get back to having fun on the court; we needed to remember why they play this game, and we did that tonight.”

The Blue Jays head to Whitewater, Wisconsin for a weekend tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Blue Jays will play UW-Whitewater on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
