Volleyball Finished With a Record Setting Weekend

The Westminster volleyball team finished the Augustana Invitational this past weekend with a 2-2 record and with four players adding their name to the Blue Jay records.

“The win against Ripon was a great team win, as you can see by the fact that we had some of the top performances in the programs history. To have that many records be broken and top five performances is great; the best part is we are talking about four players, not just one or two,” said Coach Madson.

Freshman Riley Lawrence set the record for kills in four sets with 21 kills against Ripon College on August 31, 2013. The 21 kills also placed her in fourth for the all-time kills. The record is currently held by Meredith Gibbons with 23.

Sophomore Lexi Collier, the Blue Jay named to the All-Tournament Team, tied for second in kills for four sets with 20 kills, also against Ripon.

Freshman Mallory Hubbard had six service aces against Loras College on August 30, 2013, putting her in fifth for aces in four sets.

Freshman Kayla Reeg broke the record for assists in four sets and is now third all-time with 56 sets against Ripon. She is also placed herself in second for service aces in five sets with six service aces against St. Ambrose on August 30, 2013.

When asked about his outlook on the season after this many records were broken during one tournament, Coach Madson said “with balance like this and if we continue to work hard, we could have a great year.”
