Undergraduate Scholars Forum will Celebrate the Liberal Arts on April 19

On Thursday, April 19, members of the Westminster community will come together to hear more than 100 student presentations in the 2018 Undergraduate Scholars Forum.

The forum, which begins at 9 a.m. in Coulter Science Center, will feature student research on topics such as architectural design, economics, education, security studies, math, archaeology, biology, and feminism, among many more.

This year’s presentations will showcase the culmination of months- and years-long projects, including archeological work on the fossilized brontothere skull discovered by Westminster students in Badlands National Park in 2016, as well as 3D-printed projects and models built by Westminster’s pre-engineering students. Live musical performances will take place in Hermann lounge, and political science majors make the case for political civility by looking to the policies of Ronald Reagan and Franklin Roosevelt.

As one of Westminster’s signature academic events, the Undergraduate Scholars Forum has celebrated student research since the forum began in 2007. It provides students the opportunity to showcase projects across all areas of academia, celebrating the advantages of a liberal arts education. At the forum, Westminster faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees offer formal recognition to students’ scholarly work. Each year, more than 150 students apply to present a variety of projects, from research papers to creative work and performances.
