The Remley Women’s Center: A Year in Review

As the 2017-2018 academic year comes to a close, we at the Remley Women’s Center look back on a great year centered on support, awareness, and celebration.

For the complete highlights of our year, please see our annual newsletter.

Our amazing interns served as student advocates to support campus survivors of gender-based violence. Our interns also were also key resources to students who needed additional services, information, or just someone to listen. The Remley interns also helped organize fantastic programming for our campus community. This included several awareness events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month centered on healthy relationships and how to help a friend in an abusive relationship. We also joined forces with other community partners such as CARDV and William Woods University for Take Back the Night during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Although the Remley Women’s Center seeks to raise awareness, we also celebrated the amazing accomplishments and contributions of women on our campus and throughout the world. This October, we celebrated Westminster’s First Female President, Carolyn Perry, with a reception. We also commemorated the many women who inspire us for Women’s History Month with a photo exhibit that featured world leaders such as Malala Yousafzai and Tarana Burke. Our exhibit also celebrated our local female heroes such as Rev. Jamie Haskins and Professor Mary Majerus.

As we close out this academic year, we at the Remley Women’s Center are ready for another great year of serving our campus and making our community a safer, more equitable place. Happy summer!
