Taylor Scholarship Opens Up the Future for Olivia Wilson ’18

The Taylor Family Endowed Scholarship, presented by Lloyd B. and Janet Taylor, is a four-year, full-tuition scholarship awarded to a top academic student that demonstrates financial need. Olivia Wilson ’18 (Liberty, Missouri) was named the 8th scholarship recipient this past semester.

“I am very fortunate to have received the Taylor Family Endowed scholarship. It has allowed me opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise been presented,” says Olivia.

Olivia is currently majoring in Political Science and considering declaring a second major in Transnational Studies. She hopes to one day attend law school and become a lobbyist or politician involved in activism.

“Before being awarded the Taylor Scholarship I was not sure I would ever be able to afford law school, but with the reduced financial burden of paying for my undergraduate degree, I now think my dream of attending law school is achievable.”

Coming to a college with a strong alumni base was important to Olivia, because she realizes how important alumni are in determining a college’s success and the success of its students.

“I had the opportunity to personally meet Mr. and Mrs. Taylor,” Olivia says. “They are both so generous, intelligent, and truly caring. Just like the professors at Westminster, they want to help me succeed.”

For Olivia, attending a college with a supportive environment was essential. She knew choosing a college that emphasizes academics is a necessary step in her journey to law school.

“Everyone here at Westminster is very driven to make a difference and succeed, and the professors are always ready to help every step of the way. I can tell the education I am receiving here is phenomenal. The atmosphere is positive and encourages learning and personal development.”

Olivia also realizes how important developing leadership skills in college is, especially if she hopes to one day be a successful political leader.

“I hope to continue meeting new people, developing connections, and growing as a student and individual,” she says. “I hope to hold leadership positions in clubs and organizations I’m involved in on campus, such as my sorority Kappa Alpha Theta, Model United Nations, and Student Foundation.”
