High School Students: Summer Programs at Westminster

High school students can get a jump start on college this summer through two residential programs at Westminster College.

High school students can explore potential careers and get a taste of college academics through two different one-week experiences living on campus in Fulton, Mo. Students may choose to dive into security studies or gain hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. One hour of optional college credit is available for each summer program.

The Westminster Institute for National Security

Students participate in a hands-on activity in Westminster’s new cybersecurity labs.

The Westminster Institute for National Security runs July 23-26 for rising high school juniors and seniors (11th and 12th graders in the 2017-18 school year). The deadline for registration is June 15.

During the week analysis, discussion and debate will be coupled with hands-on problem solving, role playing and games led by national security expert and Associate Professor of Political Science, Dr. Tobias Gibson.  Course work will include the study of torture in the 21st century, intelligence analysis, uncovering financial fraud, Islam and the future of global politics, Winston Churchill and the Cold War, and biological crisis and security.

Westminster STEM Academy

The STEM Academy will run July 23-27 for incoming high school freshmen through graduating Class of 2017 seniors.  The deadline to register is June 15.

During Academy week, students will receive lab work and field experience from real world professions in STEM, working to solve problems through project-based learning and fun and creative activities.  In nine fascinating labs over five days, students will learn about advances in STEM fields such as 3D printing, the use of drones in paleontology, and fighting environmental damage through green chemistry, along with much more.
