Students Gain $10,000 Projects for Peace Grant
Westminster Waves visits with Juan Manzo, ’17 from Guatemala, who is one of a four-member Westminster student team that earned a $10,000 grant to bring water to a Guatemalan school in the small village of Caserio Los Guates where Manzo attended for two years. The group is spending five to six weeks in the village building a rainwater catchment system to supply the school with potable water and will also conduct workshops focusing on water sustainability and good sanitation practices.
The money for this grant is supplied by the Davis Projects for Peace initiative, which funds 100 youth projects annually that help build peace throughout the world. Westminster students have earned funding for at least one project every year of the program’s existence.
