Westminster STEM Academy 2017 Recap (Photos)

High School Students interested in science and math explored their academic passions and potential career paths last week at The STEM Academy July 23-27.

During Academy week, 28 students received lab work and field experience from real world professions in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), working to solve problems through project-based learning and fun and creative activities. In nine fascinating labs over five days, students learned about advances in STEM fields such as 3D printing, the use of drones in paleontology, and fighting environmental damage through green chemistry.

“This year’s STEM Academy was the best yet,” says Dr. Jim Concannon, Academy Director and Associate Professor of Education. “What makes the STEM Academy so special is that the academy professors provide minds-on and hands-on opportunities. The STEM Academy professors do not lecture; instead, they pose questions, facilitate student inquiry, and provide opportunities for students to engage in science.”
