Seals Jr. Scored 3 Touchdowns In Blue Jays 35-14 Win

Westminster Blue Jays hosted Crown College Saturday afternoon for their home opener. The Blue Jays shut down the Crown College Storm in the second half, outscoring them 21-0. The Blue Jays took the 35-14 win and are now 1-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play and 1-1 overall.

The Storm scored after 11 plays and with just five minutes off the clock. Junior Joe Plassmeyer completed a 37 yard pass to Sam Lantz Jr. for the Blue Jays’ first touchdown of the day. The PAT was good by Jeff Dickerson, tying the game at 7-7. Blue Jay’s Dennis Dent sacked the Storm’s quarterback, causing a fumble in the 18 yard line. The Blue Jays recovered the ball and Dent completed the 18 yard fumble recovery for another Blue Jay touchdown. Dickerson’s kick was good and the Blue Jays were up 14-7 with just 7:36 off the clock.

With just one minute left in the second quarter, the Storm was able to rush the ball into the end zone and score, tying the game up at 14-14. The Blue Jays attempted to score before the time ran out, but were unable to and the game heading into halftime tied.

The Blue Jays came into the second half ready to shut down the Storm and the game with a win. Westminster’s Kyree Hart came out in the third and intercepted the Storm’s pass. He returned the ball 24 yards, but the Blue Jays were unable to get close enough to score. Ronnie Seals Jr. had nine rushes in the third before he was able to cross the line and score. The Blue Jays grabbed the 21-14 lead with 5:16 left in the quarter. The Blue Jays stopped the Storm from making past their own 33 yard line, and the Blue Jays started their drive on the Westminster 40 with 1:27 left on the clock.

Seals Jr. took ahold of the game and grabbed two more touchdowns with a 6 yard and a 32 yard rush. Hart intercepted Crown’s touchdown pass with just 11 minutes left in the game, putting an ending the game.

Seals Jr. finished the game with 22 rushes for 143 yards and 3 touchdowns. Plassmeyer completed 15 passes for 182 yards and one touchdown. Freshman Mike Washington led the Blue Jays with 85 receiving yards. Dickerson went 5-for-5 on point after attempts. He finished with five punts for 177 yards and six kickoffs for 372 yards.

Freshman Jacob Voorhees led the Blue Jays with six tackles. Hart grabbed two interceptions and senior Josh Bromberg had one interception.
