Retreat Celebrates 40 Years of Women at Westminster College

All Westminster College women are cordially invited to the Second Annual Westminster Women’s Retreat from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Hunter Activity Center. This Women of Westminster (WOW) event kicks off a year-long celebration of 40 years of women at the College. The first woman was admitted to Westminster in 1979.

More than 40 women attended the first Westminster Women’s Retreat last year. The retreat is now an annual event.

Dr. Cinnamon Brown, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Associate Dean of Faculty, says women are encouraged to bring friends who may be interested in attending Westminster. “We are asking women who have friends and family members who could be prospective students one day to come — some folks are bringing younger cousins and sisters,” Brown explains.

In addition to students, prospective students, faculty, and staff, this year’s WOW retreat will include a panel of female alumni from all over the United States, including those from the first class of Westminster women. “We are so excited to have our female alums back and to share their stories of the female experience over the years,” Brown says. “We are really aiming for the retreat to foster bonds between Westminster women and to provide helpful lessons about being female in this ever-changing world.”

In addition to the alumni panel of women, the four-hour event will include brunch, body image and self-care sessions, and a discussion by Remley Women’s Center interns about the Westminster women’s experience.  “We would like to thank the Remley Women’s Center interns for their help and guidance,” Brown adds.

The Second Annual Women’s Retreat is organized by a committee of Westminster women who represent various campus organizations and departments. In addition to Brown, the committee includes Dr. Kasi Lacey, Margie Lechner, Dr. Kali Wright-Smith, Dr. Carolyn Perry, Emily Perry, Cori Tynes, Keller Hawkins, Kiva Nice-Webb, Lusitania Savio, Madison Shaw, Lauren Williams, and Sarah Stevens.
