Students Learn about International Issue of Hunger with Hunger Dinner

Westminster students will have a better understanding of the one in six Americans who go hungry every day after attending the Hunger Dinner sponsored by the Campus Activities Board at 7 p.m., Nov. 21, in the Hermann Lounge.

Participants will draw tickets at random that will assign them to a high, middle, or low income group.  Percentages in each group will be based on the latest statistics about the number of people living in poverty.

Then each income level will receive a corresponding meal based on his or her income level.  Depending on their income, the meal will be filling and nutritious or sparse and simple.

Following the meal, guests will be invited to share their thoughts.  Discussion leaders will share thoughts on some of the major organizations that combat the issue of hunger such as Oxfam America, UNICEF, and Heifer International.

The simulation exercise is a part of the Poverty Week activities on campus.
