A Message from the Parents Association Presidents
Dear Parents,
Sending your child away to college is not easy, but we, as parents, have been so happy with their decision to enroll at Westminster College. Cheri Mann and I, Tom Husak, are the Co-Presidents of the Westminster College Parent’s Association for this year. As the parents of Westminster students, we know you have many questions as your child is beginning or continuing their college journey. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2014/2015 school year and hope your child will find that it is great to be a Westminster Blue Jay!
Westminster College has always had an outstanding academic reputation, as well as an historical significance to the region and the country. We are fortunate to have the National Churchill Museum located on campus and a piece of the Berlin Wall visible at the entrance to the Freshmen Quad. To us, it shows that, academically, Westminster thinks globally, recognizing how intertwined the world is today. That allows them to properly prepare our children to compete and succeed in a workplace significantly different than when we entered it.
When speaking to seniors and graduates of Westminster College, we were impressed with the number that graduated with careers in their field or had been accepted to the graduate school they wanted to attend. Researching and creating degrees, such as cyber-security, shows that Westminster recognizes that this is a changing world. We, as parents, are amazed by the effort of the College to understand the needs of the economy of the future.
We have found that the professors and coaches don’t just present information; they actually instruct our children by getting to know them. The counselors create schedules that are unique and challenging. There is a real effort to guide the student into making wise decisions to help them graduate in four years.
We feel it’s important for parents to know how to stay connected to the school. The Parents Association is one way to know what events and activities are available for your student. We publish a quarterly e-newsletter, and your one-time dues help to purchase items for the direct benefit of the students. In the past that has included furniture for Hunter Activity Center, a Water station, a canopy for the sports teams and a portable grill for school events. We work with the school and student groups to identify their needs. What we can purchase is directly related to the number of members we have.
We invite you to join this organization and become involved in your child’s college years. We’d be pleased to answer any questions you might have about Westminster College.
Sincerely,
Cheri Mann [email protected]
