One Read Author to Give Campus Talk

Westminster College will have the privilege of hosting George Hodgman, the author of the book selected for the Fulton One Read program, for a talk at 7 p.m., Monday, September 12, in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury.

The event is free and open to the public.  A reception and book signing will follow the talk in the Undercroft of the Church.

Hodgman will talk about returning home to Paris, Missouri, to care for his aging mother and how that experience became the memoir Bettyville, which has been selected for the One Read project.

The visiting author is a veteran magazine and book editor from Simon & Schuster, Vanity Fair, and Talk magazine.

One Read, coordinated by the Daniel Boone Regional Library (DBRL) and now in its fifteenth year, is a community-wide reading program sponsored by a task force of local media and community agencies.

Modeled after Chicago’s successful “One Book, One Chicago” project, this comprehensive program involves cities, counties, media, schools and businesses in encouraging adults of all ages to read one book and participate in thought-provoking discussion and activities.

The event is co-sponsored by the One Read Task Force and the Westminster College English Department.

Those interested in more information can contact Dr. Maureen Tuthill, Chair of the Westminster English Department and Associate Professor and A.P. Green Fellow in English at 573-592-5066 or [email protected].
