On the Spirit of Giving: a #GivingTuesday Reflection
Contributed by Westminster Director of Spiritual Life, Chaplain and Instructor of Religious Studies Jamie Haskins
This morning I had the privilege of talking with Bongiwe, a student from Swaziland. Bongiwe is passionate about providing quality education to low-income students in her home country and it’s her dream to found a non-profit organization that will work to make that happen. Yesterday, I helped Freda, a student born in Ghana who is double majoring in English and Religious Studies, plan her course schedule. She doesn’t know what she wants to do with the rest of her life quite yet but she is sure of one thing: she wants to make this world a better place.
Every day I spend on Westminster’s campus is a gift. To work with our students, to spend time with the amazing young men and women who call this place home, offers me such abundant joy and hope for our future and our world. Our campus is overflowing with optimism, energy, and beautiful possibility.
To give to Westminster College is an act of hope. With each donation you profess your belief in our students and you support their goals, aspirations and dreams. When you offer your time or your resources to this community, you tell almost 1,000 students that you believe in them. You provide support and encouragement to the global leaders we are shaping and forming here in this place.
There is a spirit of passion, energy and positive change on this campus and when you choose to give, you’re choosing to be a part of the amazing work and incredible community that are unfolding here.
I give to Westminster College because it gives so much to me. Now it is my joy, my privilege, and my honor to invite each of you, in the spirit of giving, to do the same!
