October 2013 Faculty Recognitions, Awards, & Honors

Many Westminster professors were recognized for honors, awards, and promotions at this week’s October 2013 faculty meeting. Promotions included Dr. Jeff Mayne (Associate Professor of Biology), Dr. Gabe McNett (Associate Professor of Biology), Dr. Sonia Manzoor (Associate Professor of Economics), and Dr. Therese Miller (Professor of Health and Exercise Science).

The Dean’s Award for Outstanding Junior Faculty honors one junior faculty member in each division. Dr. Heidi LaVine (Humanities), Elise Bartley (Social Sciences), and Jane Kenny-Hunt (Math and Natural Sciences) were recognized as the winners this year for their commitment to teaching, professional development, and service.

The President’s Award for Teaching Excellence was awarded to Dr. Therese Miller. The President’s Award is based on teaching, professional development, and service, but preference is given to those whose inspiration in teaching extends beyond the classroom.  “Therese Miller is off-the-charts in this way, because she teaches faculty all the time, even when she doesn’t mean to,” said Dean of Faculty Dr. Carolyn Perry.

Dr. Ed Mirielli was honored with the Tyler Research Fellowship. The Fellowship is given each year to support faculty development in the area of global awareness and understanding.

Dr. James McRae, Dr. Tobias Gibson, Dr. Mark Boulton, and Dr. Linda Webster were also the first recipients of the Winney Awards. More information can be found about the Winney Awards here.
