No Shave November Makes its Way to Campus

The Kappa Alpha Order fraternity on campus is hosting a month long philanthropy event to benefit  MDA called “No Shave for MDA.” The philanthropy is a play on No Shave November, in which men abstain from shaving for the entire month of November in support of a cause. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the national philanthropy for Kappa Alpha Order and has raised 2.7 million dollars for the organization since 1975.

Adam Malette, Westminster College admissions representative and alumnus of Kappa Alpha Order, wrote an article about “No Shave for MDA” for the American Mustache Institute website. In his blog post, he writes that “philanthropy has never been so easy, not to mention fun!” This is a campus wide event as students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate. Women were also invited to participate by sponsoring a man in what Malette calls the “fight to grow for a cause.”

Entry into the event involved a five dollar donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and agreeing to take a before and after picture taken on November 1 and November 30.  At the end of the event,  prizes will be given to the man with the grizzliest beard, sweetest ‘stache and most creative facial hair.
