What to Expect: New Student Convocation for Class of 2021 on Saturday 

 After moving into the residence halls on Saturday, August 19, the new Westminster class of 2021 will be escorted to The Hill to officially enter campus through the historic Columns in one of the College’s most revered rites, the Columns Ceremony. 

Welcoming the new class will be the Custodian of the Columns, Alec Bise ’18 from Jefferson City, MO, one of the seven members of the Skulls of Seven.  Responding on behalf of the Class of 2021 will be Sarah Ayers from Ballwin, MO and Michael Summerlin from Lexington, MO. 

Next the Skulls of Seven will lead the new students to Champ Auditorium where the Convocation ceremony will be held. 

The ceremony will begin with a welcome from the Vice President and Dean of Students Bomani Spell.  Then Interim Vice President and Dean of Enrollment Management Dr. Calvin Smith will present the new class. 

Convocation remarks will be given by Derick D. Dailey ’11 who recently graduated from the Fordham University School of Law in New York City and has accepted a position in St. Louis as an associate with the law firm of Dowd Bennett LLP. 

Remarks to the class will also be offered by Lydia Creech, ’19 from Republic, MO, who is the Student Body President. 

Those not in attendance who wish to see the Convocation ceremony may watch it on live stream.

This year’s class of Westminster students represent 12 states and 7 different countries. 

Twenty-six of the new students have a legacy connection to Westminster, which means a grandparent, parent, or sibling attended the College previously. 

Following Convocation, the new students will attend a farewell reception for their parents and family members on Latshaw Plaza, have dinner with their mentors, attend a spirit rally and then socialize with their resident advisors and new classmates on The Quad. 

Classes begin for the new academic year Thursday, August 24.
