Moore’s 29 Points Aid In Westminster Blue Jay’s 88-63 Victory

Elsah, Ill.- The Westminster men’s basketball team extends their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record to 2-0 after the 88-63 victory over Principia College on Saturday. The Blue Jays are now on a three game win streak and are 4-3 overall.

Junior Brandon Moore (Jefferson City, Mo. /Blair Oaks) scored 10 points in the first four minutes of the game, giving the Blue Jays the 15-5 lead. The Blue Jays continued to grow their lead and a three-point buzzer beater by Jay Zalis sent the Blue Jays into halftime with a 43-30 lead.

The Blue Jays pulled a 7-0 run followed by an 8-0 run in the second half to give them the 63-40 lead with 13:29 left in the game. The Blue Jays held the 88-56 lead with two minutes remaining in the game, but the Principia Panthers scored seven to end the game with the Blue Jay 88-63 victory.

Moore shot 11-16 from the field after hitting seven three-pointers, ending the game with 29 points. Freshman forward Javier Martin Ortega (Coslada, Spain /I.E.S. Ramiro de Maeztu) chipped in 17 points, going 7-8 from the field and 3-3 from the foul line. Senior Joe James (St. Louis, Mo. /Vianney) dished in 10 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds.

The Blue Jays shot 55.4% from the field and 46.4% from the three-point line.
