Westminster College Named Top School for Military Service and Veteran Students

Westminster College has been named to the top 15% of colleges, universities and trade schools for its work to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success.

This 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools is compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide that have been approved for Post-9/11 GI Bill funding.  Schools receiving the coveted Military Friendly designation have earned this distinction through qualifying scores from a rigorous survey assessment.

Earlier this month U.S.News & World Report ranked Westminster  #7 among all national liberal arts colleges on its  Best Colleges for Veterans list.

These rankings were given to the top-ranked schools that participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active-duty service members apply for, pay for and complete their degrees.

The approximately 1,600 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s Military Friendly Schools list exhibit leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience.   These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility and other services to those who served this country.

This marks the sixth year in a row Westminster has been awarded the Military Friendly School designation.  Over those six years, the Military Friendly Schools list has changed the student veterans landscape to one much more transparent and has played a significant role in capturing and advancing the best practices to support military students across the country.

“We are proud that Westminster College is consistently recognized nationally for providing such a supportive environment for military students,” says Westminster President Dr. George B. Forsythe.  “Our faculty and staff are committed to making the transition to civilian life as smooth as possible for students who come to us from the military.”

The survey results that comprise this 2015 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media.

Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the year before via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board consisting of educators from schools across the country.

The Military Friendly Schools website  features the list, interactive tools and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences.

Victory Media is the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life and is a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that has been serving the military since 2001.
