Mike Reid To Receive Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award
Mike Reid from Jefferson City, MO, Class of 1968, and a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, will receive the 2017 Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award on Saturday, April 29, during the college’s Alumni Weekend.
Reid is Associate Executive Director, Advocacy for the Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) where he directs the organization’s advocacy and lobby programs.
“Being a liberal arts institution, Westminster College provided a variety of opportunities for me—in particular, an individual study course taught by Dr. William Parrish, in which we deeply delved into the material in several of the books he authored, piqued my interest in history and taught me to analyze and discuss opposing positions,” says Reid. “This, along with writing and defending my senior thesis on General Sterling Price, prepared me for my experiences in law school. Consequently, the well-rounded education I received at Westminster College has allowed me to be successful in my various employment positions with state government and as a member of my community.”
The Jack Marshall Alumni Loyalty Award is bestowed upon alumni who demonstrate continued interest in Westminster College through contributions of time, talent, influence and/or funds and who have demonstrated exceptional loyalty, commitment and dedication to the College.
Before joining MSBA, Reid was Director of Compliance for the Missouri Ethics Commission where he oversaw implementation of campaign finance statutes, lobby reporting and conflict of interest laws for the State of Missouri. In fact, he has authored the majority of campaign finance and lobby laws for Missouri.
As part of his continued dedication to Westminster College, Reid regularly hosts Mid-Missouri events for prospective families, donors and alumni, as well as having served as Alumni Association President.
He also lent Westminster his lobbying expertise when scholarships for students were being debated in the Missouri State Legislature.
Reid and his wife Sally have three daughters—Sarah, Anne and Emily—all of whom attended Westminster.
Jack Marshall, the Alumni Loyalty Award’s namesake, was Reid’s Dean of Students during his time at Westminster and they maintained a friendship following his graduation.
Reid will receive his award at a special Alumni Honors Convocation Ceremony to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury on the Westminster campus in Fulton, MO. The award is approved by the Alumni Council and requires a motion and vote from the Board of Trustees for approval. Only one alumnus can receive the award annually.
